In previous articles Prerequisite for SAPUI5 and Fiori
, What is SAPUI5?
, What is Fiori?
, we explained the basics of SAPUI5 and Fiori. We also talked about SAP Web IDE and how to get started with that
SAP Web IDE is used to extend or create an SAPUI5/Fiori application. Let us assume that the application is consuming an OData service coming from a 3rd
party (non-SAP) system. In this article, we will explain how you can configure SAP Web IDE to use these OData Service.
Northwind OData service
Here we will use Northwind OData service as an example. This is a publicly available test service and contains good sample data.
The OData service URL is http://services.odata.org/V4/Northwind/Northwind.svc/
Steps to configure OData Service for SAP Web IDE
- Create destination in HANA Cloud Platform
- Access the OData in SAP Web IDE using Service URL (Destination)
Step 1: Create Destination in HANA Cloud Platform
Open your HANA Cloud Platform account. If you do not have a HCP account, refer to the article Get Free Access to SAP HANA Cloud Platform
and create one.
In the SAP HANA Cloud Platform Cockpit, as shown below, click on the “Destinations”
menu item on the left. Then click on “New Destination”.
Create a new destination in the following way:
Add following additional properties:
Finally the destination should look like below
Step 2: Access the OData in SAP Web IDE using Service URL
Now if you want to create a SAP Fiori application using the SAP Fiori Starter template you have to do the following at step 3 of the creation process:
- Select Service URL
- Select the destination we have created, in this case it’s Northwind OData Service
- Copy here the path to the service, in this case “/V3/northwind/northwind.svc“
- Click on the little “Play” button
- Click on Next and proceed with project creation
This is the way we access and consume OData Service in Web IDE. If you still have any dout, post that in the comment below.
