Install Cloud Foundry Plugin in Eclipse

In previous articles Cloud Foundry - A Game Changer in Cloud we gave you basic introduction to Cloud Foundry. In this article, we will learn how to install Cloud Foundry Plugin in Eclipse.

Eclipse Plugin for Cloud Foundry

The Cloud Foundry Eclipse Plugin is an extension that enables Cloud Foundry users to deploy and manage Java and Spring applications on a Cloud Foundry instance from Eclipse or Spring Tool Suite (STS).

The plugin supports Eclipse v3.8 and v4.3 (a Java EE version is recommended), and STS 3.0.0 and later.

This is done in 2 steps:
  1. ad and install Eclipse
  2. ad and Install Cloud Foundry Plugin

Step 1: Download and install Eclipse

Download and install eclipse from Eclipse Mars or Eclipse Luna. For example, go to Eclipse Mars site and download Eclipse as per your operating system.

After Eclipse is installed, open it.

Step 2: Install Cloud Foundry Plugin

1. Browse to https://github.com/cloudfoundry/eclipse-integration-cloudfoundry/blob/master/updatesites.md and download a release update site zip file.
2. In Eclipse or STS, select Install New Software from the Help menu.

3. Click on Add Button.
4. Enter "Cloud Foundry Integration" or a name of your choice for the repository. Click Archive.

5. Select the zip file you downloaded in step 1.
6. Select Core/Cloud Foundry Integration and, optionally, Resources/Cloud Foundry Integration. Click Next.

7. In the Review Licenses window, select "I accept the terms of the license agreement" and click Finish.

Congratulation! Your eclipse is now ready for Cloud Foundry.
