SAP HANA Web-based Tools

Introduction:

Before HANA SP7, HANA Studio was the only tool available for doing SAP HANA Development.
Although HANA Studio is very good and easy to use tool, there are still some problem with this.
  • HANA Studio is desktop based tool. It has to be downloaded and installed. This means if you are working from a different computer/laptop, you will have to install the HANA studio in each of them.
  • It does not give the facility – “Work from anywhere with any device”.

Imagine that you have completed all your development in HANA and after so much of hard work you are now relaxing near a sea beach. Suddenly you get a call that there is a minor change required in the files. Would you like to open your laptop for this? Or would you prefer to do it from your mobile?
Or suppose you are in airport and want to check the status of HANA server and do some basic admin work. Wouldn't you like if you could do it from your tablet?
SAP HANA Web Based Tools
Now a days we do not want to stick to our laptop for work. We want to work from anywhere with any device (mobile, tablets, laptop). This is the main reason behind SAP HANA Web-based Tools.

SAP HANA Web-based Tools/IDE:

This is also known as “SAP HANA Web-based Development Workbench”.
SAP HANA Web-based tools are set of browser-based tools which allow users to develop and manage on HANA system from any device.
SAP HANA Web-based Development Workbench contains four modules:
  • Editor: Inspect, create, change, delete and activate SAP HANA repository objects.
  • Catalog: Create, edit, execute and manage SQL catalog artifacts in the SAP HANA database.
  • Security: Manage users and roles.
  • Trace: View and download SAP HANA trace files and set trace levels (for example, info, error, debug).

http://<WebServerHost>:80<SAPHANAinstance>/sap/hana/xs/ide

Suppose you HANA host id is “abc” and instance no is 02, then the URL will be
http://abc:8002/sap/hana/xs/ide

No Installation:
The SAP HANA Web-based Development Workbench allows you to develop entire applications in a Web browser without having to install any development tools and is therefore a quick and easy alternative to using the SAP HANA studio.

Intuitive and Simple:
It provides an intuitive user interface and simplifies development by providing many convenient functions. For example, it includes a wizard for creating applications and automatically generates the application descriptors (the .xsapp and .xsaccess files) that SAP HANA applications are required to have.

Best suited for HANA Cloud:
The usage of browser based development tools is particularly appealing to cloud-based SAP HANA development scenarios, like SAP HANA Cloud Platform.  You only need access to the HTTP/HTTPS ports of the SAP HANA server and avoid the need for any additional client side software installation.

Works with all devices:
SAP HANA Web-based tools works on all the devices be it mobile, iPhone, tablets, laptops or computers.
