Prior to Hana SP9 SAP suggested to use different tools to get data into HANA: SAP Data Services (SDS), System Landscape Transformation (SLT), Smart Data Access (SDA), SAP Replication Server (SRS) etc. You used SAP Data Services for batch transformations of virtually any sources, SLT for real-time replication of a few supported databases with little to no transformations etc.
With SP09 of SAP HANA, SAP has tried to make it easier and reduce the confusion over the topic of Data Load in SAP HANA. With SAP HANA Smart Data Integration Feature, you get one in all package plus any difference combinations of all the loading tool for loading data into Single HANA Instance.
It simplifies the architecture and landscape
The intension was to reduce the confusion over whether to use SAP Landscape Transformation (SLT), SAP Data Services (SDS), Smart Data Access (SDA) or get a single UI that support all the available tool.
The vision of SAP HANA smart data integration is to build the data provisioning tier natively within HANA; to simplify the SAP HANA landscape by removing an entire tier previously built with heterogeneous non-native tools.
The native integration capability of SAP HANA smart data integration is architected for on premise, cloud or hybrid deployments, and supports all styles of data delivery including
- Real Time (not all data sources)
In addition, the architecture benefits in-memory processing in HANA, which gets a massive performance boost along with an open framework and SDK. All of this enables you to build custom adapters to integrate any data sources your imagination allows to get data into HANA.
