Start and Stop HANA Systems using HANA Cockpit

You can use the SAP HANA cockpit or the SAP HANA cockpit for offline administration to stop or start an SAP HANA system. In this article we will describe this in detail.

Prerequisites
You have the credentials of the operating system user (adm user) that was created when the system was installed.

How to start HANA system using Cockpit?

Follow below steps to start HANA system:
  • From the My Resources or Group Overview, drill down to the Overview of a single system in SAP HANA cockpit.
  • Open Manage Services by clicking the Overall Database Status.
  • Click the Overflow button in the table tool bar.
  • Select Start System.

Result: The database services start one by one. If the system contains multitenant database containers, the services of all tenant databases are started.




How to stop HANA system using Cockpit?

Follow below steps to start HANA system:
  • From the My Resources or Group Overview, drill down to the Overview of a single system in SAP HANA cockpit.
  • Open Manage Services by clicking the Overall Database Status.
  • Click the Overflow button in the table tool bar.
  • Select Stop System.
  • Specify how you want to stop the system.
Softly: The system is stopped after all running statements have finished. If the system doesn't stop before the specified timeout, it is stopped immediately. The default timeout is 5 minutes.
Immediately: The system is stopped immediately. Open transactions are aborted and rolled back.

Result: The database services stop one by one. If the system contains multitenant database containers, the services of tenant databases are stopped. When all services have stopped, the system has the status Stopped.
